An idea for a nice autumn day? In our area it is almost tradition to take a tour among the local “frasche” and wine cellars. In Friuli Venezia Giulia we are certainly spoilt for choice! You say wine, you mean home. To get the season off to a great start, in September, we visited some of the wineries of the famous Colli Orientali del Friuli, in the particular Mont’Albano Agricola and Sot la Mont.
Alessia from The Italian Smoothie organized a beautiful red and white afternoon, taking us, Nuovi Giorni, and our friend Luche dal Nord, to visit the hills of Savorgnano. A considerable quantity and quality of vineyards that will soon be colored in autumn. We were overwhelmed by the passion that the different owners of these wineries were able to pass on to us and we spent a challenging, but pleasant, day of tasting and walking. Being wine lovers ourselves, how do you think that worked out? 😜
One interesting thing is the different approach to wine that every owner has. There are those who remain faithful to their traditions and those who try to experience something innovative. There is no doubt that in any case you can’t go wrong!
Mont’Albano Agricola was a great discovery. A winery that produces novelty: organic wine without sulphites. Since the mid 80’s a breath of fresh air for our region: when Mauro decided to look at his land from a different perspective, making even better conditions for those who have to work it. Tasting these wines, we were pleasantly impressed! From the wine without sulphur dioxide you could perceive the taste of the ripe fruits: you have to try it! We hope that his desire to experiment can be a forerunner for many realities that want to get involved and create new visions of this wonderful world.
Mattia’s vision for Sot la Mont, is enclosed in an intimate cellar full of passion. With a lot of sacrifice and work, staying true to his traditions and following in his grandfather’s footsteps, he is growing this activity step by step and, with love and kindness, he told us how, little by little, his future is taking shape. Here, too, there was no lack of tastings…and what tastings! We guys of #thecollettivo did not hold back down in front of all these different wines and, so, white and red have become the colors of a beautiful bond that is growing between us, because let’s face it, in front of a glass of wine, we all feel more united.
To get rid of it all, together with the native Nerino, we took a nice walk through the hills of Savorgnano. Orange tones, the scent of must and the sun coming down behind the vineyards: the Vie en Rose of our Friuli. To top off the day, many laughs and a beautiful sunset accompanied, once again, by a glass of good wine. Cheers to friendship!
